Writing Ideas for The Silent Tree Remembers

You Try It!

How would you end this story?

The ending of The Silent Tree Remembers is left open. The tree thinks the man doesn’t remember, but does he? Do you think the man heard the tree? Does the man remember the experiences that the tree tries to share with him? Or was the man listening at all? Will he simply use his saw to cut down the tree?

You decide. How would you end this story? Use your imagination to pick up where the silent conversation drops off.

Begin by thinking about the man’s perspective. In the story, we only get the tree’s point of view. Here’s an opportunity to hear from the man.

Brainstorm by answering the following questions.

If you like to draw, create some of your own illustrations to help you brainstorm.

Next, try continuing the same format, as in The Silent Tree Remembers, with questions, thoughts, or responses to the tree.

Remember, writing is always a process. First, get your thoughts down on paper, then work with your draft to revise it. Keep changing the words until you find the vocabulary and flow you want to complete the story in a way that makes your readers feel they are a part of it. Most importantly, have fun creating your own ending to The Silent Tree Remembers
