Writing with Potatoes, Papaw, and Me
Lesson ideas for the classroom
The lesson below engages students in the writing process. Using Potatoes, Papaw, and Me as an anchor text, students are guided to write their own progression by creating snapshots of an event of their choosing.
Overview of lessons:
Introduction to writing with a quick writing activity.
Model planning for writing using a graphic organizer and Potatoes, Papaw, and Me.
Students complete a graphic organizer with their own writing idea.
Students will use their graphic organizers to draft their poem.
Students will confere within a small group.
Students will make revisions after conferring.
Students will edit, write their final draft, then publish their poems.
