School visits have been so much fun and very engaging for kids. Be sure to check out the pictures and reviews below.
Purposes of school visits:
To get kids energized about writing!
To introduce younger students to authors, illustrators, story basics (characters, setting, events, etc.) and vocabulary.
Here are some possible ideas for school visits:
It is suggested that teachers prepare students for the author visit by briefly introducing the author and helping students brainstorm questions they might ask. One way is to chart "Ask the Author" questions and assign them to students.

Interactive mini-activity: Rhythm in poetry after reading (grades 4-6) (using Potatoes, Papaw, and Me)

"Carol June Franks recently visited our school and was such a joy! Her presentation of Sled Ride Down Unrue Street was so well received by our 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders. She did a wonderful job of engaging the students as she read. We also enjoyed her tips about the writing process and use of sensory details. Carol's presentation was both fun and informative for students and teachers alike.
I highly recommend scheduling her to visit your school to share her genuine love of sharing stories through writing."

"My kindergarten students and I were so excited to meet local author Carol June Franks! Ms. Franks shared her book "Potatoes, Papaw, and Me" and spoke about her experiences as an author. Her read-aloud was engaging for our young learners and served as an instructional tool for language development, fluency and expression, listening skills and comprehension. Ms. Franks discussed challenging vocabulary words using visuals to increase student comprehension. She encouraged student participation, and concluded her time with a question and answer session. It was a meaningful learning experience for my kindergarteners. They've been studying the roles of the author and illustrator, and meeting Ms. Franks allowed for real-world application of their new knowledge.
What a wonderful opportunity for my young learners!"

Author visit @
Frankfort Christian Academy,
10-22-24
“Both elementary and middle school students alike at the Frankfort Christian Academy thoroughly enjoyed a visit from Mrs. Carol June Franks. It’s always beneficial for students to meet a ‘real live author’, but Carol June’s teaching experience adds another level to her interaction with students. From having complete control of the classroom to teaching students how to begin writing about their own memories, Carol June is organized, professional, and encouraging.
We so appreciate her time with us!”

Fairview students were just the best audience as I shared my books and answered questions. The high school learned about the process and production of book creation, while the elementary students were engaged in interactive readings.

"What a joy it was to have Mrs. Franks visit Heritage Elementary! Her visit was such a wonderful learning experience for our students. Not only did Mrs. Franks read her story to all our K-5th grades, but she included vocabulary instruction and fluency practice that was tailored to each grade level. The students were really engaged in her presentation and activities.
They loved getting to meet her and ask questions about being an author and the writing process. "
